Reba McEntire on Her New Album, ‘Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope’

Country superstar Reba McEntire discusses her new album, the importance of faith in her life and the joy of having family and friends in the studio to harmonize with her.

Hi, Guideposts. It’s Reba McEntire here. I have a new album out, “Sing It Now, Songs of Faith and Hope.”

It’s been one of my most personal albums to date, because of my relationship with the Lord. All of these are my favorite songs. Which ones do I like to sing along to? “I’m So Happy I Got The Lord On My Side,” that’s a praise and worship song that you can sing anywhere and it just makes you feel so good.

“Amazing Grace,” that’s to me a very personal song to God. It’s just saying thank you for all that you’ve given me. Same with “How Great Thou Art,” it’s a love letter. That’s a love song to God. And so it’s just one after the other that the reasons why I chose these songs is it’s all heartfelt, and they’re all my favorites.

I invited Kelly Clarkson and Trisha Yearwood to come do the album with me, because Trisha and Kelly and I had sang together on Kelly’s Christmas program. We did “Silent Night.” And our voices blended so well together that I thought, boy, I can’t pass this opportunity up. And they said, yes. I’m really glad they did.

When I was growing up, it was Pake and Susie and myself. We were the Singing McEntires. And that blood harmony is just so special, loved it. That’s why I asked Mom and Alice and Susie to come do “I’ll Fly Away” with me. You just can’t beat family harmony.

My girlfriends are very special to me. They’ve been with me through thick and thin. They’re there to counsel, to give advice, to say shut up, grow up, or come here, cry on my shoulder. They’re wonderful. I don’t know what I’d do without my girlfriends.

I hope that listeners take away a sense of change. Whether it heals them, whether it makes them happier, whether it relieves them, I hope it changes some way. I hope when they get through listening to the album, they go, wow, I feel better. Now that’s resolved, or something has changed with them.

I really have been looking forward to doing a gospel album for many, many years. And now the time is right. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed getting to sing these wonderful songs.
