Hi, Guideposts. I’m Reba McEntire, and my new album is called Stronger Than the Truth.
The reason I wanted to call the album Stronger Than the Truth is because I thought, “That’s one of the strong songs on the album.” And what’s stronger than the truth? Not much.
My last album being a gospel album, I had such a wonderful time singing songs that I’d grown up with, new gospel songs, and sharing my love with the Lord. And then it just brought me back to me, plain and simple. And that’s why I wanted to record such a down-home, back-to-my-roots country album, just being me.
For music to touch my heart, it has to say something. It has to have a melody in there that touches me. The music, the lyrics have to have a message in them of some sort to give peace or hope or joy or just make you cry. It has to give some kind of emotion.
My faith impacts everything I do. Before I go into a project, I pray that God will guide me, that the Holy Spirit will help me select the right songs, do the right thing and deliver it in the way that God would smile about it.
What do I hope that people will get from this album? I hope they realize that they’re not alone, that there are other folks dealing with hurt and misery.
We’re a team. I sing the song, you listen to it and you go, “Wow, that makes me feel better. There are people out there that are going through the same kind of situations I am. I’m not alone.”
