Poor man’s steak is common fare in Pennsylvania Mennonite homes. It’s also a simple and inexpensive dinner to make and a delicious reminder of sacred family traditions, a treat for the whole family to enjoy!
Ingredients
3 pounds ground beef
1 cup saltine cracker crumbs
1 cup cold water
1 onion, finely chopped
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
Oregano & sage, to taste
Mix together:
1 large can cream of mushroom soup
1 large can beef broth
Preparation
1. Mix beef, crumbs, water, onion, salt, pepper, oregano and sage. Press into 14½x11-inch pan. Refrigerate overnight.
2. Remove meat, slice, coat in flour. In a skillet, brown both sides. Place meat in large roaster and cover with soup mixture then foil.
3. Preheat oven to 325°F. Bake for 1½ hours.
