I invented Curry Turkey Burgers when my children were small to cut down on their red meat consumption. The curry gives the burgers a flavor the kids still love, and now they’re old enough to help me press the meat into patties. These burgers taste great from a skillet, or hot off the grill in summer.
Ingredients
1 lb. ground turkey | 1 Tbsp. curry powder |
1 clove garlic, minced | ¼ c. finely chopped onion |
¼ c. dry bread crumbs (optional) | 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil |
4 slices pepper jack cheese | 8 large lettuce leaves |
1 med. tomato, sliced | 4 hamburger buns |
Preparation
1. In a large bowl, combine turkey, curry powder, garlic and onion. Add bread crumbs if mixture seems too sticky.
2. Divide turkey mixture into four balls. Place each ball between two sheets of waxed paper; use a small plate to press each ball into an inch-thick patty. Pour oil into heated skillet.
3. Place patties on skillet and cook 4-5 minutes per side on medium-high heat until cooked through.
4. Melt cheese on top of patties for last couple minutes of cooking. Serve on bun with lettuce and tomato.
Makes 4 patties.
