Saturday afternoon.
Just a quick note to let you know that we have finally arrived in the little Bavarian village of Oberammergau, where we will see the Passion Play tomorrow. It was a six-hour drive all told from Prague in the Czech Republic and I spent most of the time talking to the group about Guideposts and answering all their questions about the organization.
Number one question: Where do we get all these great inspirational stories? My answer? We get them from you.
Today is typically rainy Alpine weather but tomorrow is predicted to be much nicer.
I took a walk into the village from our hotel. The streets were mostly deserted until suddenly throngs of people of every nationality appeared. It was the dinner break from the Passion Play. You see, the play starts at 2:30 and goes until the dinner break at 5:00, then commences again at 8:00 to its conclusion at 10:00 or so.
The theater seats about 5,000 and is situated outdoors, though under cover. The town itself has a population only slightly more than that, and nearly half of them are involved in some way in the production. Amazing.
I’ve attached a couple of pictures, one of the town and one of the view from my window of a craggy mountaintop. You probably can’t tell from the photo but there is a simple cross at the summit. Tomorrow I might find out if there is a way to climb up. I would love to put my hand on that cross in gratitude for our safe journey here.
Time for dinner with the Guideposts group. You wouldn’t want me to be late, would you?
