In a city as dense and crowded as New York City, it can be difficult to find space that feels peaceful and secluded. Places where you can respond to the call for spiritual life. So every weekend when I want to enjoy the tranquility of nature, I head to Highland Park, one of the city’s great hidden treasures. It’s situated just on the border of Brooklyn and Queens, and I ride past ugly gas stations and garages to get there. Nothing distinguishes the area–no famous residents or luxury high rises–except for a stretch of cemeteries that surround the park. But that’s all part of its charm. Once I get there, it feels like I’ve left New York all together.
