My mom has– she was born in New York. And I think she– I think she developed sort of a reputation for being kind of an adventure for her time, because she– I know one of my uncles said that she was known as the girl in the neighborhood who ran away to London because a friend of their family’s had gone to, you know, had gone to England during World War II. And I think she just decided she wanted to go there, which was not something that, you know, people– girls– did in the ’50s. She was supposed to get– like, maybe she was supposed to get married young, I don’t know. But she just decided to go to England and get a job there. And she also, you know, left home, had an apartment with some other girls, and was working in publishing, and just kind of had one of those, like, fabulous, ’50s New York lives.
Definitely, if I was going to think of, like, you know, somebody that I wanted to be like, there’s plenty of things that she has done in her life that I would use her as a role model that way, especially, you know, sort of going off to different countries or just deciding to do something and, you know, that sort of thing– being somebody that many years later, people would still talk about as, you know, a girl in the neighborhood that sort of turned heads. Happy Mother’s Day, mom.
