I went to breakfast yesterday with my friend Kate, who is one of the most generous-hearted and thoughtful people on the planet. We mostly talked about our kids. One of her sons has struggled for years with social anxiety, obesity, a learning disorder and depression. He’s a fabulous human being whose challenges include having other people label him as fat or lazy or “not trying hard enough.”
After we’d talked for a while Kate took a sip of her coffee. She looked up and said quietly, “What others don’t see is that my son gives me–and his father–the opportunity to be like Christ every day.”
Wow. How’s that for a way of looking at the challenges of raising a child?
