5 Great Phone Apps for Pet Lovers

From finding a dog park to diagnosing an animal’s illness, you can have all your pet care needs at your fingertips!

Phone Apps for Pet People

We use our smart phones to call the kids, order pizza and even surf the web. Well, if you need some pet-friendly assistance, guess what?  There’s an app for that too! Staff writer Mikey Rox from Wisebread.com researched and discovered these five great apps for pet people.

1.Locate a Dog Park
Eukanuba Unleashed (free)
Enter in your zip code and this app will indicate area dog parks where your pet is allowed off-leash. This can also utilize GPS to find the closest parks near you!

2.Diagnose an Ailment
Pet First Aid ($3.99)
If you notice that your cat has a cough, or your dog got into something less than appetizing in the trash, check out this app first. It’s not a substitute for the vet’s, but it can help you diagnose symptoms, provides instructions in emergency situations, and even helps you organize and store your pet’s medical information.

3. Find pet-friendly businesses
Fido Factor (free)
Many people today opt to take their dogs along on vacation. This useful app will help you locate restaurants, shops, and public places that allow dogs. New York, Boston, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle are the most prominent cities listed, but additional listings are expected.

4. Adopt a pet
PetFinder (free)
Looking for a new furry friend? Now, a listing of adoptable cats, dogs, rabbits and small animals is as ‘handy’ as it gets! This is one of the best sources …after all, I found the perfect dog on Petfinder–my dog Kelly!

5. Learn a Trick
Dog Tricks—Best of 101 Dog Tricks (99 cents)
Out at the park and suddenly have the urge to teach your dog a new trick? Then load this app and follow the step-by-step directions.  So many to choose from, you won’t know whether to roll over, or sit up and beg.

Kelly and I don’t have a smart phone yet. With all these great pet-friendly apps, though, maybe it’s about time we did!
