I’m thankful for the way my dog Kelly greets me at the door, as if my return is the best thing that happened to her all day.

I’m thankful for her soft reddish fur, and I’m especially thankful that she loves me every day.

Although we express our gratitude for our pets by feeding them, loving them and playing with them, Thanksgiving is the perfect time to remind ourselves just how lucky we are.

Several happy pet owners shared with us on Twitter why they are thankful for their pets.

1. My pets comfort me.
Rebecca (@rennerchicka) is thankful for her two dogs Gracie and Beau and three cats, Mushu, Georgia and Dusty. “They comfort me when I’ve had a lousy day. They’re here for me no matter what.” She adds, “”And they could care less what the house looks like!”

2. My pets understand.
Sonya (@SonyaVanSickle) thanks God for that “soul to soul connection” when she looks into her cats’ (Niko and Anna) eyes. “God did a special thing when he gave us pets,” she says.

3. My pets help me grow.
Connie (@petportraitluv) is thankful that her dog Jesse and cats Carma and Brock help her to learn and grow. She says that sometimes providing for their health and safety necessitates “thinking outside the box.” And she’s more than happy to do that for her furry friends.

4. My pet cuddles.
Kate (@k8fenner) thanks God that her kitty, Cinnamon, snuggles up with her when she’s alone. A warm body and soft purr keeps her cozy even on the chilliest day.

5. My pet amuses me.
Dawn (@journalwriter7) is thankful that her cat, Sophie, amuses her with clever acrobatic antics. Nothing like a good laugh to start your day!
Ths year, I’m (@peggyfrezon) thankful not only for my dog Kelly, but also for all the great pets I meet and the folks who share how pets bless our lives.

Happy Thanksgiving!
