September is National Recovery Month. Since Guideposts’ founding, more than 70 years ago, we have been helping people overcome addiction through the power of inspiring first-person stories. Bill Wilson, the cofounder of Alcoholics Anonymous, told his story in our pages in 1947, his first appearance in a national magazine.

Guideposts remains committed to helping people believe anything is possible—including recovery from addiction—through faith, hope, prayer and concrete steps toward change. Our Overcoming Addiction editorial series features stories by people from all walks of life who have learned to face this difficult challenge. As in all Guideposts stories, hope is the guiding theme, helping writers and readers alike find their way to healing.

Mark September 12 on your calendar. That’s when Guideposts will celebrate National Recovery Month by reaching out to you, our readers. Editor-in-Chief Edward Grinnan will host a Facebook Live session at 12 p.m. ET to answer your questions, share his own story of recovery and tell more about Guideposts’ efforts to help in this nationwide struggle. Go to facebook.com/guideposts.

We’ve also created a library of our stories about addiction and recovery. You can search for resources and information; order our new book One Day, a compilation of our recovery stories through the years plus a journal; and request prayer from our online prayer community. Go to guideposts.org/overcomingaddiction for more information.

Guideposts is launching an initiative called R2Q (Resolve2Quit .org). We’ll partner with some of the nation’s most trusted recovery and advocacy organizations, helping people believe there is hope in recovery.

“Much of what we hear about addiction in America is discouraging—and it’s important to know the truth about this challenge to our nation,” says Guideposts CEO John Temple. “At Guideposts we’ve always believed that problems can be confronted not just with knowledge but with the hope that comes from sharing inspiring stories. That’s what we offer all those struggling with addiction. Please join us.”
