Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. —Matthew 18:2-3 (KJV)
Jesus realized the merits of childhood and charged his followers to become like little children. Wouldn’t that be wonderful, if we could once again possess those characteristics? If we could maintain our maturity and yet experience the simplicity and excitement of a child?
What a difference it would make in our lives—and our faith! We would have more energy to deal with our problems. We would find more joy in relationships. We would see fresh opportunities and solutions.
Wouldn’t this year of 2012 be a good time to embark on the adventure of becoming as a child again? Are you ready for a fresh year of joy and laughter, of wonder and discovery? Are you ready to be surprised by what new life and vitality is in store for you if you practice a childlike faith?
Between the
Last of ’11 and
The first of ’12,
Midnight sounds:
Pealing church bells
Ring out the old,
Ring in the new—
A resonant reminder of
What I myself should do.
Father,
Your great Apostle Paul
Told the church at Ephesus,
“Put on the new man,”
Urging the people there
To cast out old habits
Not Christ-taught.
Let me follow that
Good advice tonight
And start this new year
As your child of light.
