Internationally renowned evangelical minister Dr. Myles Munroe was killed on Sunday when the private Learjet 36 he was travelling on hit a crane and exploded while trying to land at Grand Bahama International Airport. His wife, Ruth Munroe, and the seven others on board were also killed.
Munroe and his wife, co-senior pastors of Bahamas Faith Ministries International Fellowship, were preparing to lead their annual Global Leadership Forum in Freeport, Bahamas. The three-day forum proceeded as planned on Monday and a full investigation of the crash is currently underway.
A best-selling author and teacher, Munroe had published 69 books, and one of his most notable works, “The Burden of Freedom,” is said to have “revolutionized the thinking of many people regarding third world nations, particularly, [in] Africa and the Caribbean.”
The tragic death rocked the evangelical community and condolences for the family and the BFMIF ministry rolled in from all over the world. Among many evangelicals impacted by Dr. Munroe, Bishop T.D. Jakes took to Instagram to pay tribute to the Bahamian leader, “There are few biblical clinicians [whose] view of ministry wasn’t enriched in some way by this tremendous [B]ible scholar. His voice changed the way we viewed the Kingdom!”
The Munroes are survived by their two children, Myles, Jr., and Charisa.
