A Perfect Bible Verse for Comfort

A crow and a Bible verse helped Karen Barber find comfort in this excerpt from Daily Guideposts 2017.

A Perfect Bible Verse for Comfort

And he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. . . .  —Habakkuk 3:19 (KJV)

I was out on my morning prayer walk, telling God how my life felt so unstable because of concern over my son’s depression. I need some solid ground to stand on, I thought.

Caw! Caw! A huge crow sitting precariously on the very flimsy top twig of a tree drew my attention. It seemed to brag to the wind, not a bit worried that the puny branch it was on looked like it would snap under its weight.

What a daredevil! I thought. If I were up in that tree, I’d stay down lower on a sturdier limb.

A snippet of a Bible verse came to mind: “Hinds’ feet . . . upon high places” (Habakkuk 3:19). I remembered that a hind is a mountain deer, but since I was watching a crow I tweaked it to fit the current scene.

So why was the crow perfectly comfortable in such a risky place? What if the twig snapped? The crow had a strength and ability to fly that didn’t show with its wings tucked tightly around it. I looked up the Bible verse when I got home and discovered that the first part says, “The Lord God is my strength.” I had found the solid ground I could always stand on.

Dear Father, I thank You that You don’t just give me strength, but You are my strength. Amen.
