Don’t Worry About the Future

If you’re worried about your future, don’t. It’s in God’s hands.

Our family just spent a week on vacation—my husband and myself, our three adult sons and their wives, and our six grandchildren. We’d planned to be at our favorite vacation spot at Hilton Head Island, but Hurricane Matthew changed our plans. So we headed deeper south to a charming community with turquoise waters and white sand beaches near Panama City Beach.

One of our favorite activities at Hilton Head is bike riding, so we were thrilled when we discovered that we’d still be able to do that at our new vacation spot.

We formed quite a parade as we headed down the bike path. Our son and two daughters-in-law rode on tandem bikes, hauling their little ones on the attached bikes behind them. My six-year-old granddaughter rode her own bike, her first time to be like one of the grown-ups. My son pulled a cart behind his bike for his two-year-old, Nolan. Paul and I rode down the path at the end of the procession.

We were heading towards Rosemary Beach when we heard an extremely loud pop. At first we thought it was from the construction crew working nearby on a new house, but then I heard my husband say, “Jason, you’ve got a flat tire on Nolan’s cart.”

We were several miles from the house we’d rented and a good way off from the shops down the road. In a bit of a quandary, we talked about what to do.

I eased my bike a few feet down the trail to get out of the way, and as I did, I noticed a cluster of bikes beside the path. I went a few feet further, and my mouth dropped open–we were about ten yards from a bike shop.

Within minutes, the nice young man there popped off the flat tire, found a new one and fastened it into place. Nolan didn’t even have to get out of the cart.

As we headed back down the trail, I heard that sweet whisper in my soul as God reminded me that He knows exactly what we need before we need it—even if it’s a bike shop sitting beside the road.

God says it best in His own words:

And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. (Isaiah 65:24)

For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. (Matthew 6:8)

There’s no need to worry about our future—God already knows what’s going to happen, and He’s already provided whatever we’ll need when we get there.
