Happy are those who keep His decrees and seek Him with all their heart. —Psalm 119:2
A woman I know experienced the heartache of spousal infidelity and divorce. She remarried but divorced again. And again. And again. Her search for love and happiness led her to a dead end. Why? She looked in the wrong place.
Everyone yearns for happiness. Some women think they’ll find it in marriage, while others seek it outside their marriage.
Some think they’ll discover happiness in a career. Others count the days until retirement. Some believe happiness comes with having children.
Others can hardly wait for the kids to leave home. We invest time, energy, and resources seeking happiness, but it eludes us. Perhaps that’s because our human desires overrule what matters most—an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.

The psalmist understood this. He wrote, “Help me stay on the path of Your commands, for I take pleasure in it. . . . Yahweh, I remember Your name in the night, and I obey Your instruction. This is my practice: I obey Your precepts” (Psalm 119:35, 55–56). True happiness flows from knowing Jesus and obeying Him as a result. When we walk according to His ways, He protects us from making unwise choices and guards us from the fallout of misplaced priorities.
When our relationship with Him is in order, everything else falls into place. Today and always, pursue knowing Christ and embrace His ways. Therein lies the key to happiness.

Help me see the joy in Your daily presence, dear Lord. Amen.
