And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues. Mark 16:17 (NIV)
Lord, I can’t do this. It’s impossible. My husband had left after twenty two and a half years of marriage, making me a single mom of two sons. I earned a freelancer’s income, and poor vision prevented me from driving. Thanks to a loving church family, I had plenty of support, but there were some things friends couldn’t do. They couldn’t shield me from the overwhelming legal process. They couldn’t give me the wisdom and strength to face bankruptcy and foreclosure.
They couldn’t provide a home.
My friends weren’t the ones who had to grant child visitation to a man who’d shattered my trust.
Only the Lord could help me battle depression and move forward with my life. And He did.
So when a woman at church told me, “You are a reflection of God’s grace,” I knew I had Jesus to thank.
In Scripture, Jesus equipped His followers to do impossible, scary, “is this for real?” things. While it’s unlikely we’ll be called upon to cast out demons, at some point we all face something that feels just as daunting. These are the tests that have the power to solidify our faith and cause others to marvel at His grace.
