[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, it’s Rick Hamlin. Psalm 116– “the pains of death surrounded me. I found trouble and sorrow.” “The pains of death,” I read this Psalm not long after my own father died, and I was still taking in the news of my brother-in-law who was in that plane crash where his colleagues and friend died.
I mean, there are seasons in our life where we feel surrounded by death. We see friends. We see family members. And you have that sense of loss. Well, obviously, it’s something to put into our prayer life. When you feel that pain– “the pains of death surrounded me, I felt troubled and sorrow.” I only find trouble and sorrow.
Further down in this Psalm, there’s another line that’s more comforting. “I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.” For when we’re separated from our loved ones by death we’re still in this land of the living, and that’s where we carry out God’s will. So our walk is not alone. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 116.
