[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi. Rick Hamlin. This is Psalm 131. It’s a short psalm. Look at it. Short and modest. “Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty– neither do I exercise myself in things too high for me.”
Now, humility gets a bad name most of the time. People think of sort of that false humility. But there’s something lovely about honest humility– doing what we’re called to do.
Real humility is not groveling and being down in the ground. Real humility is accepting who we are as friends, as parents, as employees, as colleagues– accepting those gifts and recognizing that we’re just who we are.
We’re who God made us. Lord, let’s not reach for those high things that make us filled up with ourselves, haughty, too lofty, thinking we’re better than we are. Let us know who we are and accept it and glorify in it– glory in it.
Lord, my heart is not haughty– my eyes not lofty. I know who I am. Psalm 131. Amen.
