Hi. It’s Rick Hamlin. “10 Prayers You Can’t Live Without.”

The first prayer is a blessing my dad said every night around the dinner table. Bless this food to our use, us to thy service, and the hands that prepared it– that was Mom.
Dad’s blessings at dinner went on and on, not only that opener, but he went on with whatever he heard on the radio coming home from work– the war, the president, the football team, the baseball team. And then he’d also pray for us, what was going on in our lives– the papers we were writing, the cheerleading contest, for the football game, the tennis match.
But in the middle of it, of course there were always interruptions. The dog would bark outside. Mom’s rolls– you’d have to go into the kitchen and get the rolls. So he put those things in prayer.
It was a good lesson– when you get an interruption in prayer, put it in your prayer. And as for the news, take it right back to God.
So those blessings taught me that prayer can be about anything. And we even called dad’s prayers the 6 o’clock news because he put so much prayer in there. Bless this food to our use, us to thy service, and Mom, the hands that prepared it.
