With commencements cancelled or postponed, these students’ words offer optimism for the future.

Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

The high school graduates of 2020 are navigating this important transition in their lives in unique circumstances—the Covid-19 pandemic has meant postponing or cancelling once-in-a lifetime commencement exercises

But there are still ways to honor and recognize those grads. I reached out to some graduates and asked them to share a prayer that reflects this special time for them. And maybe the rest of us can use these prayers to pray for this year’s crop of graduates, near and far:

God, graduating seniors around the world had their last day of school and didn’t even know it was their last. Today, we ask You to comfort them during this hard time and wrap Your loving arms around them. Fill them with the peace to accept their present circumstances, and the strength and determination to persevere for a brighter future. Lead them through this trying time, and show us how You can still use it for good. Thank You for your goodness and unfailing love, even in the midst of heartbreak.

Lord, they have worked all their lives for this day, the day they hear, “Congratulations, you did it!,” in front of all the people they love, like they dreamed it would be. Please give these seniors peace in the midst of this trial and comfort them in this difficult season, for You are Sovereign, Lord, and You hold us in Your hands.

Dear Heavenly Father, protect 2020’s graduating seniors as they struggle through these times. Show them that You are what they need to lean on. Use them in a special way for Your honor and glory, to spread Your love to others who are hurting. Give them the strength they need. I pray they will shine Your light on this troubled world.
–Rachel from Marion Heights, Pennsylvania

Lord God, help us seniors remember the lessons we have learned in quarantine. We are never promised anything, and now we know to always be grateful for the people and opportunities in our lives. I pray that we will see the gift of living in today and to choose joy in everything, as we encourage others to do the same. I pray that You will help us not feel jealous of future generations who get a graduation and a prom but, instead, to be happy for them. I pray these things in Jesus name, amen.
