Tranquility. It’s not a word you hear much these days. Truth is, most people have trouble finding tranquility—serenity, peace, a sense of calm—in their own lives. Yet this marvelous state of being is available to every child of God everyday.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you,” Jesus says. “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid’ (John 14:27).
But how, in the midst of the bustle and trouble of daily life, are we to find tranquility?
The greatest method for obtaining tranquility is to fill your mind full of thoughts about Jesus. He knew all about the pain of the world, all about the sins of the world. He knew he would have to suffer and die to bring about our salvation. Yet Jesus was overflowing with the everlasting peace of Almighty God, the “peace that no one can completely understand” (Philippians 4:7).
So claim the peace Jesus gives. Read your Bible. Pray. Meditate upon your God-given blessings. Visualize Jesus with you as you go about your daily duties.
Paul told young Timothy to keep his mind on Jesus, to “keep on being faithful to what you were taught and to what you believed” (2 Timothy 3:14). And this is sound advice. Keep your mind on Jesus Christ, keep your mind on God and even in a tangled time like the present you will have that marvelous blessing: peace of mind. Out of your own peace, you will help to being peace to a troubled world.
