Your Life’s Purpose

Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.—1 Chronicles 16:11 (NIV)

Each one of us is put here on earth to make a difference. God’s purpose for you is far greater than you can imagine, far greater than your own happiness or peace of mind. To discover your purpose, turn to His Word. Spend time deepening your faith. Each day, plant seeds of love, nurture those around you, find joy in everything you do and never forget how important your life’s work truly is.

Heavenly Father, on days when I lose sight of my purpose for being here, help me to remember I’m doing this for You.

Joy in the Face of Trials

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.—James 1:2 (NIV)

When you are right in the midst of a challenging situation it’s difficult to see yourself as a diamond forming under pressure. With time and hindsight it’s possible to appreciate your struggles and be patient during the difficult times because they make you stronger and wiser.

Lord, thank You for the life lessons I have learned from my darkest days and longest nights.

Praying in Secret

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.—Matthew 6:6 (NIV)
This verse invites you to find a place where no one even knows you are praying, shut the door, and talk to God in secret. There is spiritual power in intimate prayer—in sharing deep thoughts and emotions. Keep your words between you and God and enter into an adventure that is uniquely yours.
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my trusted friend. I long to know You better.

Trust God, No Matter What

The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.—Nahum 1:7 (NIV)
At one time or another, you may go through a crisis of faith, when you find yourself questioning if God is really good, loving and powerful. If you feel abandoned and filled with doubt, draw closer to Him. Know that you can depend on God no matter what your circumstances. He knows you personally and cares for you deeply.
Heavenly Father, I need Your help. Desperate times have shaken me to the core. Guide me out of trouble. Guide me back to You.

Do What Happy People Do

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.—John 13:34 (NIV)
Are you looking for an easy way to make your life better? Make a point to do one thing, one simple gesture every day, that shows another you love them, really, truly love them. You’ll know you’ve made a difference.
Lord, Jesus, today and every day, I will take time to love someone with intention.

It’s OK to Be Sad

When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.—Nehemiah 1:4 (NIV)
Are you feeling down? Talk to God. Be honest about your feelings. You don’t need to pretend that you’re fine when life hurts. Instead, do as Nehemiah did: cry. Be sad. Mourn. Grieve. Ask God to help you believe that tomorrow will be better.
Heavenly Father, I know You rescue those with crushed spirits. Wrap Your arms around me and heal my broken heart.

Focus on the Good

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.—Romans 12:2 (ESV)
Actions are born from thoughts, so if you can focus on good things and block thoughts that lead to destructive behavior, you can break the chain of bad habits and actions. If you can’t totally prevent a negative thought from entering your mind, you can refuse to dwell on it and stop it in its tracks before your actions follow.
Dear Lord, guide me to following Your will and focus on what is good, acceptable and perfect.

Change Is Good

For the Spirit God gave us does
not make us timid, but gives us
power, love and self-discipline.—2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)

Progress is impossible without change. Yet many fear taking a leap towards something better. Instead, we stay in jobs we don’t like or relationships that have problems. If there is something in your life that needs to change, pray. Use this verse as an affirmation to help you have the bravery to move forward. You are not alone. Blessings lie ahead.

Dear God, help me to face the changes I should make in my life; grant me the courage to leap.

Use Healing Words

Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.—Colossians 4:6 (NLT)
Your words have tremendous power. Despite the old saying about sticks and stones, words can cause lasting pain. Every day is an opportunity to use kind words generously in teaching about God’s love. As Jesus said, “What you say flows from what is in your heart.” (Luke 6:45)
Heavenly Father, help me make the world a better place, one word at a time.
