Change of Seasons

Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth.—1 Chronicles 16:33 (NIV)
God placed clues in nature to help us turn to Him and find meaning and purpose. Autumn, with its bursting colors of foliage, is often a cue for us to reflect on our lives and make changes that will help us grow.
Merciful Father, thank You for the beautiful change of seasons that inspires me to look inward and let go of things I no longer need as I make a new life.

No Complaints

Moses also said, “You will know that it was the LORD when he gives you meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning, because he has heard your grumbling against him. Who are we? You are not grumbling against us, but against the LORD.”—Exodus 16:8 NIV
Today, start a complaint diet and commit to cutting back and ultimately ridding yourself of the unhealthy habit of grumbling. Whenever you find yourself moaning, be silent, or better yet, thank Jesus instead.
Dear Lord, thank You for helping me focus on gratitude over grumbling.

A Time for Rest

The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”—Exodus 33:14 NIV
Rest is vital for rejuvenation and renewal. Make it part of your week to schedule time for a relaxing break. Release yourself of your goals and to-do lists. Take a holiday from stress! Amazing epiphanies and ideas often come in times of freedom and rest.
Heavenly Father, in times of silence and rest, guide me with Your infinite creativity and wisdom.

Your Best Self

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.—1 Peter 1:6-7 NIV
Although you cannot control everything that happens in your life, you can control how you react to challenges. When you approach life’s storms as learning experiences that will help make you a stronger and better person, you can see the silver lining of every cloud.
Dear Lord, guide me to being an eager student of life—to see every struggle as a tool to shape me into my best.

New Perspective

He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.—Colossians 1:28 NIV

Is there an upsetting situation in your life that seems impossible to change? Often by stepping outside the drama and looking at the situation from all angles you can release your feelings of anger or judgement. Even a slight shift in perspective can be a catalyst to harmony.

Heavenly Father, thank You for helping me view the difficult situations in my life from a wider lens.

The Key to a Deeper Relationship

And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.—John 2:3 (ESV)

Do you want a deeper relationship with God? Instead of sitting idly and praying for God to come to you, seek Him through the words of the Bible. Give your time. Ask Him honestly and openly how you can serve Him. Invite His presence in your life.

Dear Lord, I open my Bible and my heart to know You in all Your wonder.

Relief Through Grief

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.—Matthew 5:4 (NIV)
Some believe that strong people don’t show sorrow or sadness, and that it’s not acceptable to cry or release emotion. Holding back your feelings is against the law of nature. Healing comes by working through your pain and letting go. Find relief through grief.
Dear Lord, on days when I feel anything but blessed, I still know that Your comforting hand is helping to heal my hurting spirit.
