“Excuse me, I think someone left their bookmark in this,” a customer said.

“No, ma’am. That one’s for you.”

I volunteer at a thrift shop. To turn our books into even better bargains, I create a bookmark for each one.

I’m a retired teacher and an avid reader. I’ve made bookmarks for years—sometimes in class with my students, sometimes to stick in a book before sharing it with a friend. It’s an affordable hobby and a fun way to recycle paper. I just cut a strip from a colored envelope for the base, cut a pretty picture from a greeting card to glue to one side and put an inspirational quote on the other. Then I laminate the whole thing for strength, punch a hole and add a ribbon.

It makes me smile when I see customers discover the bookmarks. It’s my way of sharing a good read and an uplifting thought.
