A God Who Never Leaves Our Side

4 Bible verses that help a grandmother remember that God is always there for her, just as she is always there for her grandchildren.

God is always at our side. Trust Him.

My grandson, Nolan, is two-years-old now. When he looks up at me with those big blue eyes and then puckers up to give me a kiss, he melts my heart like marshmallows over a hot fire.

When he visits, his big thrill is to head upstairs to the playroom that we’ve filled with toys and books. Now that he’s crawling, I walk close behind him so he won’t fall. As he crawls up one step, he turns to see if I’m still with him. I say, “I’m right here, baby.”

He does the same on the next step. I always look at him and say, “I’m coming with you. I promise.”

One day I realized that it’s as if God whispered, “You do the exact same thing with Me. I tell you, ‘I am with you. I promise I’ll never leave you!’ but you doubt Me—even though I’ve always been there for you before.”

Ouch. Guilty as charged, and I suspect I’m not the only one. So for all of us who need a refresher course in trusting Him, I thought I’d share some of God’s sweet promises that have helped me:

1)  Are you afraid? Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

2)  Do you need strength? Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

3)  Do you need courage? Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

4)  Do you need security? Psalm 23:4 says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

When Nolan gets a little older, he’ll learn—like the older grandchildren—that he can count on Grandmama to be there with him.

I hope I’ll do as well at trusting the God who has never let me down before. Not once.
