Beat the Blues

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.—ISAIAH 58:11 NIV
Let’s face it. Over time, being a caretaker takes its toll on us. And when we’re worn down, depression may try to creep in. So how can we beat the blues? Many doctors suggest a few minutes of daily exercise—such as a brisk walk or low-impact aerobics. One caregiver found that stepping outdoors for a few minutes of fresh air was therapeutic for him. Another found solace when she engaged in her favorite hobby. Yet another discovered that a healthy diet and taking time to rest were tremendously helpful. Now and then you might even indulge in a little bit of chocolate, which increases the body’s production of endorphins. They’re those mood-uplifting brain chemicals that help us feel better. More than anything, though, we can pray—and ask others to pray for us. As we do, we’ll find greater peace. As Isaiah wrote, “The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.” Bask in His presence and feel the heavenly refreshment of His living water.
Heavenly Father, I thank You for lifting my spirits and giving me the strength I need for each new day.
