A Heavenly Difference

There is an old legend that illustrates the difference between heaven and hell. In hell, the legend claims, people sit on both sides of a dining table, but their arms are straight and stiff and they are unable to lift food to their mouths. The same conditions also exist in heaven. People sit opposite each other and are also straight-armed and unable to feed themselves. There is, however, an important difference. In heaven they reach across the table and feed each other.

The truth of the matter is that when we attend to each others’ needs, we bring a little bit of heaven to earth.
