The murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has ignited a series of unprecedented events in recent weeks. The events have served to give voice to the suffering of many and united communities of faith across the world.

Guideposts stands in support of the Black community. We encourage the difficult discussions about race and breaking down the systemic injustices that have plagued our country for centuries.

Here at Guideposts, we are committed to that change. We stand in support of our family, friends, neighbors and coworkers of color, whose experiences and stories of faith and hope create the fabric of our prayer community. We are all God’s children and believe that the Lord requires us to “…do justice…love kindness…and walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8).

Floyd’s death at the hands of police, and those of many others in the Black and Brown communities, including Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery, are painful tragedies that require us to create a more positive world, united in understanding and compassion.

In other words, we build from here.

Guideposts new vision statement states (in part):

Our vision is a world filled with hope. Faith empowers our work to build a positive world united in understanding and compassion.

Guideposts has launched a series of Facebook Live events, in an effort to bring together our social media community to pray for unity and peace. This is in addition to the weekly “Keep the Faith” videos our organization launched in early April. We plan to continue our long-term efforts, our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and to develop a greater representation of diverse storytellers in our content. We believe in the power of shared experiences to bring about change and understanding.

Finally, we must listen. We each have the power to make a difference. Compassion only occurs when we see the world through one another’s eyes. We must listen with an open heart to better understand, support and, of course, love each other.
