"Basking in God's Peace" story

4 of 4 A Friendly Greeting from Someone Cares (back cover)

“Basking in God’s Peace”

The church service had been lovely, but driving home I had already been a bundle of nerves. Guests were coming that afternoon. As I thought through my dinner plans out loud, my husband drove silently.

“Why are you so quiet?” I asked him.

“I’m just feeling good about my party,” he said, smiling.

That probably sounds strange to you, but I knew exactly what George meant.

What he said went back to our son Bryce’s fourth birthday. The moment the party ended, I began cleaning the house like a madwoman. As I pounced on the party favors and the half-eaten cupcakes, I noticed Bryce lying on the floor in a bed of ribbons and wrappings.

Just as I was about to tell Bryce to get up and give me a hand, I saw my husband looking at him fondly. Then, I took a good look, too, and we both saw his sheer joy and contentment. Without looking up, our blissful son said, “I’m just feeling good about my party.”

So often, after a peaceful prayer or church service, I rush right back into the hurly-burly. Later, I wonder why life is so hectic. It doesn’t have to be. Now and then I should just sit back and feel good about God’s generous love.
