4 of 4 A Thoughtful Greeting from Someone Cares (back cover)
Sharing Thoughts and Prayers
I sent an e-mail to my colleague and waited. She is usually so punctual about replying, I was surprised I didn’t get an answer. Finally, on the next day, I remembered that she was at a week-long conference.
A sinking sensation came over me as I recalled the complicated issues that would be discussed, the stressful arguments, the never-ending meetings, and the anxiety she had expressed about the conference. “Don’t worry”, I’d said. “I’m sure it’ll all work out.” What could I do now?
I sent another message: “I just want you to know I’m thinking of you. I pray that you express yourself with confidence, that the conflicts are speedily resolved, and that the meetings don’t bore you to tears.” I gazed at the words on my computer screen and uttered the same prayer to God.
A few days later I recieved a reply from my colleague. “You’re great. Thanks for remembering me. Your message gave me a terrific boost. The conference went much better than I expected, no doubt because of your prayer.”
My prayer? I couldn’t vouch for it. I would be quicker to credit my colleague’s gifts for her success. But her response made me feel glad that I’d let her know she was on my mind. Some prayers are meant to be shared.
