When my uncle moved into assisted living, I started sending him souvenir postcards to keep his spirits up. After a while, I couldn’t find any new ones, but he and his caregivers enjoyed the cards so much that I didn’t want to stop. So I took pictures of our family, pets, nature, funny signs—anything that might bring a smile. I ordered 4×6 prints, then wrote a message and stuck a stamp on the back of each before mailing them.
The photo postcards were such a hit that I’ve been sending them to other family members and friends. I keep a list and mail them monthly. When my favorite photo print shop runs a sale, I order enough to last a while. They are an easy, economical way to keep in touch and offer encouragement. Plus, it’s fun seeing my photos displayed when I visit my loved ones at home.
