Two years ago, the ministers of my church, Granbury Church of Christ, wanted to get more involved in the community. One of the ministers was also a police chaplain—he suggested inviting first responders for a meal.
Our ladies’ Bible study class was happy to get things cooking.
Every Tuesday, we host a lunch for our police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians. Everyone in our class takes turns bringing in a dish. Our guests get to enjoy a homemade meal, visit with friends and take a break from the stress of their jobs.
We usually have about 70 heroes dine in, and we prepare a few meals for takeout. With just a little effort from each congregant, we get a big smile from the people keeping our community safe.
