The week of standardized testing brings me to a realization that another school year is nearly over. As I look back over the past school year I like to reflect upon the positive changes that I have made in the classroom by reading over the comments I’ve made in my lesson plans, and then decide on what I can improve upon for the next school year.
This gave me the idea to do the same thing with my fitness journal. As I thumbed through the book, I looked back over the goals which I have achieved in both my physical and nutritional accomplishments, and I set new goals for the upcoming year.
At the beginning of the last school year I weighed 199 pounds. Since then I have lost 20 more pounds, just four pounds short of the 175-pound goal that I had set, yet I surpassed my running goal of three miles by running six miles. For the new school year I have set a new weight goal of 165 pounds and a physical goal of being able to run 10 consecutive miles.
With the responsibilities of my career, being a soccer mom, and my involvement in church activities, it is often difficult to find the time to work out as much as I would like to do during the school year; therefore, I am excited about the upcoming summer break in which I will be able to increase my training time.
During the school year I try to exercise a minimum of an hour per day, but it seems that amount of workout time is no longer enough to establish the results that I would like to see on the scales.
Over the summer break I hope that I will be able to increase my training time to three hours per day, so that I may obtain my new goals by the start of the next school year.
Reflecting on where you’ve been, accomplishments you’ve made, and setting goals for the future is a great way to keep yourself encouraged and motivated to continue your healthy new journey. When I think of how much stronger I am physically now compared to just a year ago it inspires me to strive that much harder to see just how much more I can improve in the future.
