The other week I went on a first date so full of awkward silences that I was forced to quiz my date on what he puts in his burrito bowl at Chipotle (if you’re wondering… corn, sour cream, beans and brown rice). Afterwards, I arrived at this conclusion: I’m going to be alone forever.
I know, I know. So dramatic. (Hey, I can’t help it, I’m a writer!)
But, really, I should take a tip from Matt Damon. You might remember his sweet love story–how he met in his wife, Luciana–from the February/March 2014 issue of Mysterious Ways magazine.
Matt’s still talking about his love for Luciana, even almost 10 years after they wed. Entertainment Tonight recently interviewed the Academy Award-winning actor, and he confessed just how lucky he felt to have found her. But then he clarified. Maybe it wasn’t just luck…
“So much of it is out of your hands,” he said. “I mean, I just had that conversation with my father this weekend. He said the same thing to me. He said it’s God’s grace, is what he said. Because you just don’t get lucky.”
He’s right. When you think about it, the chances of meeting your soul mate, especially in a place like New York City, seem pretty much impossible. In fact, most days I doubt it’ll ever happen, and I start drafting plans to move to an island of cats in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where I can live out the rest of my days in peace.
Impossible…unless, you account for “the God factor.” I’ve said it before–God specializes in the impossible. After all, isn’t that what makes a miracle a miracle? That hint of “there’s no chance this will ever happen not in a million years!”? It’s not luck bringing people together against all odds. It’s God.
I’ll try to remember that on my next awkward date. In the meantime, I’d love to hear your “how we met” miracles. Share your story below!
