How Abundant Is Your Life?

Scriptures and faith tips from Norman Vincent Peale to help you live a prosperous life.

Man with arms outstretch at sundown.

Everyone can live an exciting life, richly overflowing with God’s blessings–which include prosperity and abundance. The word prosperity is often tainted to mean only money, a nice house, beautiful clothes or a flashy automobile. But the fundamental meaning of prosperity is “to thrive and to flourish” in every way possible that enhances human life. And the word abundance doesn’t necessarily mean to have a lot. It means literally “to rise up like waves” so that all of God’s goodness, all of His joy, all of His love wash upon you. Then there is no scarcity, no limitation. There is abundance, prosperity and goodness.

If you think this idea is far-fetched, refer to the Bible, the most credible book ever written. You’ll read, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). And, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).

How do we bring all these blessings to pass? By following a simple, basic principle: “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).

If life isn’t giving to you, you aren’t giving enough to it. The more you give, the more it gives back to you. This is a law of life. But give what?

  • Give by praying for people, even those strangers you pass on the street.
  • Give love, especially if you aren’t getting love.
  • Give your time. If you’re not getting enough time for yourself, give more time.
  • Give money. Now, that is a tough one – especially in tough times like these. But the more money you give, the more you will have.

Prosperity and abundance can be yours. How? Start thinking prosperity thoughts. Never think scarcity, for scarcity thoughts scare prosperity away. In the Old Testament, you will find the following: “You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you” (Job 22:28). Suppose someone says, “I am poor.” What is that person decreeing? He or she is decreeing poverty. If, on the other hand, the person says, “I am the recipient of God’s abundance,” then that person is decreeing prosperity. So don’t think any lack thoughts! Look to your Father and believe He will send you a life that is satisfying and richly filled with blessing.
