Recently at Guideposts’ weekly prayer fellowship, my colleague Bill shared a story about when he was 25 and had learned just how powerful the two words “but God” are throughout the Bible. The more he explored the Scripture, the more he uncovered the importance of those words which represent God’s power to intervene in human and personal affairs. For example, Jesus said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
When reading the Bible, we too can discover the many passages that contain “but God.” The following are a few examples:
–“But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and He sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.” (Genesis 8:1)
–“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26)
–“When they had done to Him all that the Scriptures had said, they took Him down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb. But God raised Him up from the dead!” (Acts 13:29-30)
–“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Bible verses such as these teach us that God can change our situations, plans and lives. God intervenes in our affairs, astonishing us with His power, grace and mercy. The very presence of God in our lives opens the door for us to experience His power.
Lord, intervene in our affairs and let Your power be real in our lives.
