Pray the Psalms: Psalm 56

Guideposts Executive Editor Rick Hamlin shares how to pray Psalm 56.

Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, it’s Rick Hamblin. Psalm 56.

There was a story in Guideposts a couple of years back about a woman during the earthquake in San Francisco, and she was scared. She first got under her desk, and then they had to evacuate the building. She was in an office building.

So as she’s going down the stairs, she’s stopping. She can’t move. She said, “I’m scared.”

Well, a woman behind her said, “I know you’re scared. Just do it scared.”

Well here in Psalm 56 we get that phrase, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” God knows that we are afraid a lot.

For me, the biggest fear is really a fear of failure, the thing that kind of stops me sometimes. I’m afraid to do something because I’m afraid I’m going to fail.

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. Use that phrase. I use it. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. God knows we’re afraid. We just need to trust in him. Psalm 56.
