[MUSIC PLAYING] It’s Rick Hamlin, Psalm 52. Have you ever been with a group of people who are complaining about somebody, all those terrible things they do? Maybe it’s gossipy, maybe it’s quite negative, but they feel hurt and they’re angry and they’re unloading. They’re venting, as a friend of mine says.

Well, I look at a psalm sometimes and I wonder why we’re supposed to vent, because you’ll see these complaints in a psalm complaining about another person. And I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, I think that’s because part of a prayer life can have that kind of venting quality. Instead of doing it with a lot of other people, we can do it in our psalms, in our praise, in our prayer time.

Go ahead and vent. And then you can let it go, and you can do like this Psalmist does here. “But I am like a green olive tree, trusting in the mercy of God.” I’m like a green olive tree. Let go of the vent, the venting, and become the green olive tree.
