Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

Can you name some popular proverbs? For example, “actions speak louder than words” or “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” These wise sayings communicate insightful messages in only a few words or a sentence. Did you know that the Bible is full of proverbs that touch upon all areas of life?

Several years ago while attending a Bible study, a member of the group reminded us that there are 31 chapters in the Book of Proverbs; one for every day of the month. He recommended that we read a chapter a day. This is a good practice for faith. I suggest selecting one proverb each day that strikes you and writing it down where you can see it and reflect on it throughout the day. Over time these sayings sink into our subconscious, influencing our thinking and actions in a positive way.

Here are some of my favorite proverbs:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. (Proverbs 11:24)

A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. (Proverbs 15:1)

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. (Proverbs 19:21)

What is your favorite proverb? Please share with us.

Lord, teach us to live wisely.
