Led by the Spirit

For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.—Luke 12:12 (NIV)
Do you plan difficult discussions in your head—going over what you might say and rehearsing challenging conversations ahead of time? When you are approaching an uncomfortable meeting, pray and be open to hearing from the Holy Spirit. Follow His guidance. He will help you know the right thing to say.
Heavenly Father, when I am at a loss for words, speak through me.

Blessed by God’s Love

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.—1 John 4:16 (NIV)
The late Brian Doyle, beloved contributor of Guideposts devotions, wrote, “Love is the story and the prayer that matters the most.” Today, on Valentine’s Day, embrace God’s limitless love, and discover the power of letting go of judgments and expectations. Open your heart to spread His heavenly Light.
Dear Lord, may the radiance of Your love bless my life and the lives of all those around me.

Quiet Your Inner Voice

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.—Psalm 37:7 (NIV)
Focus on this verse and the true meaning of quieting your inner voice to make room for God’s presence. Release your worries and be filled with His love and hope. Sit in stillness and let your heart and mind seek Him.
Heavenly Father, help me to remember that inner peace is just a prayer away.

God’s Watchful Care

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.—Genesis 28:15 (NIV)
Reflect on this verse and the times in your life when you have been conscious of God’s watchful care. Recall when you were worried, and He kept you safe from harm. Then recite this line from an old hymn, Lead, Kindly Light: “So long Thy power hath blest me, sure it still will lead me on.”
Father in Heaven, thank You for promising to protect me and guide me through life’s ups and downs.

Take a Break

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.—Mark 6:31 (NIV)
When you need a break, quiet your mind, rest—and pray. God offers you peace and energy. He can restore your spirit and improve your outlook. He can give you the tools to work through whatever difficulty you are facing.
Lord, when I pray with You, I have renewed strength to face what once seemed overwhelming.

In the Darkness

The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me… but you, Lord my God, brought my life up from the pit. When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you.—Jonah 2:5–7 (NIV)
Imagine Jonah, in the darkness, inside the belly of the great fish, with seemingly no way to escape. His future looked hopeless, and yet God delivered Him. When you feel enveloped by the darkness, focus on His promises. He is the Light.
Almighty Lord, like Jonah, I know You will always bring me up from the pit. I know You won’t forget me.

Your Help Comes from the Lord

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.—Psalm 121:1–4 (NIV)
God keeps you safe. As your Eternal Parent, He wants to comfort you and let you know that you are loved and cared for. Repeat the above verse to yourself and remember: The Maker of heaven and earth will always protect you.
All-powerful God, when I am afraid, guide me to lift my eyes to the mountains. My help comes from You.
